The Association of Proprietors of Private Media Establishments of Nigeria (APPMEN) collaborates with national and international partners to drive media development and professional excellence. Through our Institute for Communication and Media Studies, we focus on high-impact projects that safeguard the integrity of the Nigerian media landscape.

Our Core Focus Areas

• Combatting Misinformation: Implementing advanced fact-checking and digital literacy programs.

• Crisis Response: Training media houses in rapid-response reporting during national emergencies.

• Conflict-Sensitive Reporting: Promoting ethical journalism to support peace and national stability.

Active Project: Journalists for Sustainable Democracy

Objective: Empowering independent news media organizations as pivotal agents of change. This initiative ensures that private media plays a vital role in informing citizens, promoting transparency, and strengthening accountability within Nigeria’s governance structures.

Currently transitioning into a core curriculum module at the APPMEN Institute.

Looking Forward: September 2027

In affiliation with the University of Maiduguri, the APPMEN Institute will officially take off in September 2027, offering specialized diplomas and professional certificates in:

• Media Law, Ethics, and Management

• Graphic Arts, Web Design, and Digital Administration
